Two legends of music to be honoured at inaugural AIM Independent Music awards
Two of the recipients of the first AIM Independent Music Awards have been announced today: Domino Record founder Laurence Bell and Icelandic legend Björk.
Bell, who will be awarded the Pioneer Award – which recognises a visionary independent label founder – launched Domino back in 1993 on the back of a £40 a week enterprise allowance scheme. The label now leads the way in independent music with a roster that’s seen the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, Pavement and Elliot Smith.
Björk receives the Outstanding Contribution to Music award for a career spanning more than 20 years, a back catalogue without equal and an approach to music that continues to push boundaries.
The AIM Independent Music Awards is about recognising the success of all levels of act, genre and label and commending the real heroes of a music sector that continues to challenge the main stream, nurture talent and thrive. The ceremony will take place at Floridita in Soho, London on 10 November and will be hosted by BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and Radio 1’s Huw Stephens.
