Twitter reportedly in talks to purchase SoundCloud
According to a piece by Re/code, Twitter may be in talks to purchase SoundCloud.
This would be Twitter’s second attempted foray into musical territory after last year’s release of their (now defunct) Twitter Music app.
Last year, SoundCloud was valued at roughly $700 million, meaning this could be Twitter’s largest acquisition to date (following their purchase of MoPub, then valued at $300 million).
Speaking strictly in numbers, it’s not quite the paramount news of Apple’s Beats Electronics acquisition earlier this month. However, if a deal does go through, it could lead to some interesting changes and integrations for both platforms.
Both companies denied to respond to the initial article, which is sourced from “people familiar with both companies”—for more background info, check out the Re/code article here.
Update: According to The Wall Street Journal, Twitter has dismissed the purchase and has allowed their exclusivity deadline on talks to pass because “the numbers didn’t add up.”
