Trump expected to pardon Lil Wayne and Kodak Black as presidency draws to a close
Rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black are expected to be pardoned by Donald Trump during his last day in office, which takes place tomorrow (19 January).
Tomorrow will mark Trump's last day as US president before Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday (20 January). As CNN reports, Trump is due to issue approximately 100 pardons and commutations of sentence during his last full day in office tomorrow (19 January).
The list will feature pardons for white collar criminals, high-profile rappers and others, and while Trump isn't expected to pardon himself or his family, rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black could potentially be receiving pardons.
As LA Times reported last week, Lil Wayne could be in with a chance of receiving a pardon after endorsing Trump on Twitter before the November election. While many fans disagreed with his support for Trump, it seems that there was a bigger motive, with Lil Wayne facing a possible 10-year prison sentence on gun charges following an incident in Miami back in December 2019.
Florida rapper Kodak Black is also apparently in the running for receiving a pardon from Trump. Kodak Black endorsed Trump's Platinum Plan a few days before Lil Wayne on Twitter, writing in part, "this is what the community needs.... more ownership. That plan is right! I want to help with justice reform when I am out as well."
Kodak Black is currently serving over three-and-a-half-years in prison after pleading guilty to weapons charges. Kodak Black is likely hoping to be pardoned for for firearms possession after being caught with a Glock at the Canadian-American border.
LA Times reports that representatives for Lil Wayne and Kodak Black haven't responded to requests for comment.
