Australian pop star Troye Sivan has returned with the joyous single “My My My!”, the first track from his forthcoming second album, due for release this spring.
It’s a noticeable glow-up from his debut, 2015’s Blue Neighbourhood, transforming that album’s tentative suburban melancholia into pure euphoria, whilst retaining its sense of high drama.
From its initial sunburst of sampled vocals to the unabashed chorus (“I die every night with you,”) it captures the particular jewel-like joy of queer love - where defiant happiness overtakes disbelief. It feels like the first big pop moment of 2018 - as audacious as the exclamation mark in its title.
