Toots & the Maytals singer injured after being hit with vodka bottle at festival
Toots & the Maytals frontman, Frederick “Toots” Hibbert has cancelled all his upcoming live appearances after being recently injured at Richmond’s RiverRock festival.
The incident happened at the Virginia event on 19 May when fan William Connor Lewis reportedly threw a vodka bottle towards the stage, hitting the musician’s head. Toots is said to have been “undergoing medical tests and treatment” since.
Toots’ attorney, Michael R. Shapiro says in a statement released online: “Toots and his management team share with me the view that we should only sue those who we know to have responsibility for this vicious attack. At this moment in time, the bottle thrower, Mr Lewis unquestionably falls in that category and thus the $21M civil action against him”.
Toots & the Maytals have cancelled dates in New York later this month and European festival slots during July and August.
