Tom Petty has passed away aged 66 after being found unresponsive in his Malibu home last night.
Although initial reports suggested he had died, TMZ report that Petty actually arrived at UCLA Santa Monica hospital unresponsive, unconscious, and in cardiac arrest - but still "clinging to life". After doctors discovered no brain activity, the decision was made to end life support.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the death to CBS, with Petty's management releasing a public statement:
