TLC apologise for replacing Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes on 'Waterfalls' remake
-
The surviving members of TLC, T-Boz and Chili have released a statement explaining the unexpected sub of Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes’ famous rap in favour of a re-recorded verse by J-Pop starlet Namie Amuro for a single release to celebrate the 20th anniversary of track ‘Waterfalls’.
T-Boz and Chili have spoken to celeb site TMZ, saying: ”We were forced to use a creative way to honour Lisa’s memory and celebrate this milestone with the fans.”
They added: “We have and always will protect our sister’s legacy as TLC consists of the three of us collectively … there will never be a replacement for Lisa or any members in TLC.”
The pair also say they’ve reached out to Ron Lopes, Lisa’s brother, after the late singer’s family were disappointed with not knowing about the decision taken by the group’s surviving members.
The Lopes family have now given their blessing to the release provided it is only released in Japan, which the band have yet to confirm.
