Tinariwen air new single "Sastanàqqàm", the first from upcoming record Elwan
Tinariwen have revealed "Sastanàqqàm", the first official single from upcoming record Elwan.
This track follows "Ténéré Tàqqàl", but "Sastanàqqàm" is the lead single proper - it's got a release date and everything (6 January).
Elwan was recorded at Rancho de la Luna in California’s Joshua Tree National Park and in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, southern Morocco. For the former sessions (which took place in 2014), Tinariwen enlisted the help of Matt Sweeny (Johnny Cash, Cat Power), Kurt Vile, Alan Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age), and Mark Lanegan; the sessions in Morocco took place in 2016, with "the local musical youth and a Ganga outfit (a group of Berber ‘gnawa’ trance musicians)" helping out.
