Thom Yorke's Tomorrow's Modern Boxes (kind of) goes triple-Platinum
Okay, so the 1,000,000 copies (1.2m as of writing this) weren't sold only in the UK, and BitTorrent releases probably don't qualify for BPI consideration, AND it takes into account the free single/video, but still. A million downloads.
Really, it's a majestic feat to have achieved in a week if you're not Rihanna or One Direction, so kudos Thom Yorke. With the parallels quite clear, it seems that he's beaten U2 in the race for 'most surprising release of 2014' (unless Beyoncé is planning to Beyoncé again), partly because people actually want a Thom Yorke LP, and partly because it seems like his trial will pave the way for this kind of thing more often. It doesn't seem like Apple will repeat their blunder.
It seems convincing people to embed the actual 'buy' button has proved pretty successful.
