Thom Yorke shares "Don't Fear The Light" and "Gawpers" on radio

Thom Yorke has shared his first classical composition "Don't Fear The Light", and "Gawpers" on BBC Radio 3's Unclassified show.

Presenter Elizabeth Alker played Yorke's two new tracks on Unclassified last night (28 April). The recording was made during Yorke's recent show with Bryce Dessner, David Chalmin, and the Labèque sisters at a Minimalist Dream House show in Paris, where he also premiered new solo track "Gawpers".

"Don't Fear The Light", Yorke's first classical composition, was arranged for two pianos, electronics and modular synthesizer, and can be heard around 27:00, while "Gawpers" is played around 47:20.

Speaking about "Don't Fear The Light", Yorke said, "Katia and Marielle [Labèque] suggested for a few years that I write some music for them. Usually I would laugh and explain that I couldn't read music, but in truth I was intrigued by the idea. I realised that writing for score, or in a sequencer and modular gear, are really not so far apart. But the best part for me was watching the basics of what I'd written being brought to life by the sisters and their interpretation, making the notes theirs. I can only take part responsibility for the result, it's been fascinating."

"Don't Fear The Light" and "Gawpers" are available to listen on BBC Radio 3's Unclassified. Thom Yorke plays NOS Alive festival in Portgual on 13 July. Find out more.
