Thom Yorke, Phoebe Bridgers and more to curate shows for Sonos digital radio service
Sonos is launching a new digital radio service today (21 April), and it'll include curated shows from Thom Yorke, Phoebe Bridgers, and others.
Sonos Radio is a free streaming radio service that can be accessed through the Sonos app. The service will provide access to radio stations including BBC and Global, and international stations including iHeartRadio and TuneIn.
As well as providing access to established radio stations, Consequence of Sound reports that Sonos will be getting a mixture of artists to curate their own channels, including Thom Yorke, Phoebe Bridgers, Angel Olsen, David Byrne, Jack White’s Third Man Records, Brittany Howard, Jamila Woods, Soccer Mommy, and JPEGMAFIA.
Sonos CEO Patrick Spence says of the new service, "Sonos Radio brings together streaming radio services and a select set of curated radio stations in a simple, elegant way. This is just a beginning as we work to deliver services that provide our customers a better experience, and provide our music streaming service partners an opportunity to highlight their best content."
CoS adds that Yorke is reportedly curating his own 24-hour station titled In the Absence Thereof, which will collate material "that fascinates or moves me, what obsesses me, challenges me, opens new doors, reminds me of what I might have forgotten, is insanely complex or elegantly simple, violent, messy, heavy or light. Whatever has hit me over the head basically. It may be new or old or just dug up again."
