There's a new Arthur Russell album on the way
A new set of works by Arthur Russell are set to see the light of day next month in the form of a new album titled Corn.
The nine tracks on the album are previously unreleased, and were originally recorded in 1982/3; they have been remastered from the original 1/4" tape masters by Audika Records' Steve Knutson. Audika was started back in '04 to release "officially sanctioned archival material" by Russell, but Corn is the first release of this material since Love Is Overtaking Me (2008).
Russell performs much of the material himself on Corn, although Mustafa Ahmed (percussion), Peter Zummo (trombone), and Rik Albani (trumpet) also feature.
Russell passed away from AIDS-related illnesses in 1992 at the age of 40.
Corn is due out on 9 June via Audika.
