The xx are back - hear new single "On Hold"
The xx have announced their new record I See You and shared lead single "On Hold" - they're back.
The new video was shot in Marfa, Texas, and directed by filmmaker/photographer Alasdair McLellan.
After weeks of rumours and hearsay and e-gossip, the award-winning London trio have given some concrete answers.
Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, and Jamie Smith (aka Jamie xx) sound markedly different during "On Hold" - it's less skeletal and night-timey, with chopped samples and bright synths, and it uses a sample from Hall & Oates’ 1981 hit "I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)".
I See You was recorded between March 2014 and August 2016 across New York, Marfa, Reykjavík, L.A., and London. Smith/xx and Rodaidh McDonald produce.
Writing on Facebook, the group shed some light on the follow up to 2012's Coexist: "After many years, close together, far apart, great highs, deep lows, heartache and healing, we are so happy to let you know we are releasing our 3rd album 'I See You' on January 13th 2017. We realise these are uncertain times and we hope the joy and love we found making the record will find its way out into the world, in however small a way."
