Watch The Unthanks' London album launch party video
The Unthanks recently unveiled their latest album, Mount The Air, and threw a pair of parties to celebrate its release. We're excited to be able to show you just what went on at the London launch event.
Led by sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank, the band have gone from strength to strength over the years, evolving from a "bleak Northumbrian chamber folk outfit" (The Financial Times), into a grand, fuller kind of noise that includes lush orchestral statements. To launch Mount The Air, they held a launch party in their home of Northumberland and at Brilliant Corners in East London.
The London event saw a wide range of guests from the musical world and beyond attend, including Robert Wyatt, Martin Freeman, Orbital's Paul Hartnoll, Geoff Travis and Paul Morley. It was hosted by Classic Album Sundays' Colleen Murphy.
The band answered questions about the album and other projects in a Q&A as well as showcasing the record in full for listeners, on hot-off-the-press vinyl. In the video - filmed by Sonny Malhotra - we can see interviews from attendees, who explain just why Mount The Air is so deserving of the plaudits poured on it.
Mount The Air is out now on RabbleRouser, the band's own label.
