Watch The Roots play the Super Mario Bros. theme with creator Shigeru Miyamoto
Super Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto collaborated live with The Roots on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon yesterday.
Miyamoto and the in-house ensemble provided a faithful take on the theme, with added percussive punches and earthy bass notes. The performance even features a brief cameo from Fallon himself.
Miyamoto appeared on the episode to plug the new Nintendo Switch console and the upcoming Super Mario Run game for the iPhone.
The Japanese video game designer and producer is one of the most iconic figures in gaming, with a slew of creations under his belt - he's also had a major hand in the Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, F-Zero, Pikmin, and Wii franchises.
