The National say their next album is "way more than halfway done"
The National's most recent LP Sleep Well Beast is just a few months old - but they're already working hard on its follow up.
In a new interview with NME, frontman Matt Berninger reveals some intriguing titbits of info about the status of their next long-player.
"We've been in the studio," Berninger says. "We've been recording wherever we go. We had a bunch of stuff that we just recorded in Buenos Aires when we were in South America just because we had a day or so. We've been constantly just writing. Even before Sleep Well Beast was done, there was already a bunch of stuff cooking, but when Trump won it just didn’t feel right for whatever reason. I can't even tell you why. Sleep Well Beast had the pivot when the world changed."
"I don’t know what form or when this next album is going to come out," Berninger adds, "but we’ve been doing some other really interesting collaborations with people too. It's all way more than halfway done."
Berninger has already released one collaboration in 2018, guesting on Chvrches' recent track "My Enemy". Maybe someone from the Chvrches camp is repaying the favour on The National's next release...? Fingers crossed, anyway.
The National have a busy summer ahead, with a headline stop at the inaugural All Points East in London and many more festivals in the diary. Find out their full live plans.
