The National and The xx to play new London festival All Points East
A new festival is coming to London next summer, with The xx and The National already queued up to play the 10-day event.
The new fest will take place in Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets, with a three-day music festival, three "huge standalone headline shows", and "free to access" midweek programme (featuring film, spots, education, wellbeing, food, drink, comedy, and more) focused on the local community.
The xx will play during the festival weekend on 26 May with Lykke Li and Popcaan, and many more names - "over 200", apparently - are set to be announced in the coming months. The National will hit the park for the first of three 'APE Presents...' standalone shows - they play 2 June with The War On Drugs, Future Islands, Warpaint, and The Districts (more names TBC).
"After a thrilling four sold out shows at the Eventim Apollo in September, we are excited to take over Victoria Park next summer," say The National in a statement. "We are already thinking about ways to make this more than just a show..."
The full festival takes place 25 May-3 June 2018, and is presented by AEG/Goldenvoice.
"The council is pleased to be working with AEG, who were selected following a rigorous procurement process to deliver some exciting events in 2018 which can be enjoyed by local people, Londoners, and visitors from across the UK," says Tower Hamlets mayor John Biggs.
This new fest means that Field Day - who've long had Victoria Park for at least part of the new All Points East dates - will be "Upping Sticks". Find out more on Facebook.
