The KLF confirm their return via cryptic poster
Enigmatic electronic/art collective The KLF are getting ready to make a long-awaited comeback - 23 years after their initial split.
The duo - comprising Bill Drummond and James Cauty - have "issued an official communcation", report The Quietus.
"It is almost 23 years since the Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu announced a self imposed and self important 23 year moratorium," the communication reads. "The reasons for the moratorium have now been lost in time, space, and a rusting shipping container somewhere near Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station."
"The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu are currently at work in their light industrial unit. This work will not be made public until the 23rd August 2017. For more information contact the K2 Plant Hire Ltd." they conclude.
The number 23 is showing up a lot - as it has done throughout The KLF's history. 2017, the band's 30th anniversary, is the 23rd anniversary of their infamous burning-a-million-pounds stunt - after that stunt they told the world that they wouldn't be able to discuss what happened for 23 years because of a contract they'd signed.
The Eastfolk Chronicle initially shared the poster, ostensibly discovered by editor Cally Callomon (conveniently Bill Drummond's manager), which was then confirmed to be real by Cauty. The KLF won't be returning as The KLF though, reverting to early moniker The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu/The JAMS.
A 46-minute video found its way online on New Year's Day - it's a bizarre montage of scraps, sounds, and menacing narration, but Drummond says it's "nothing to do with us."
