The Elliott Smith wall has been butchered to make way for a bar
The 'Elliott Smith wall' in L.A. has been butchered to make way for a new bar, with the memorial essentially destroyed.
The mural, located at 4330 West Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles' Silver Lake area, was an iconic piece of music heritage. Smith stood in front of the mural for the artwork for his Figure 8 LP and since his death in 2003, the landmark has become something of a memorial, with messages and flowers left in his memory.
Check out the new design below.
Aah yes. Much better than the Elliott Smith wall. Good call, wine bar. pic.twitter.com/2IrhkcDo7Y

I should note: they left part of it up but this still looks completely nuts to me. Assuming this is the final design, of course.

According to Consequence Of Sound, who last year reported on the plans to remove the wall, the company behind the new bar (dubbed 'Bar Angeles') will be using the removed section of mural "as a focal point of the [interior] décor".
Wade McElroy - who along with Russell Malixi is heading up Bar Angeles - told Rock NYC that the important section of the mural was to be kept. McElroy and Malixi are also behind Horse Thief BBQ and Café Birdie.
"We are replacing the old door and putting in some windows/storefront on the east side of the mural", McElroy said. "We need some light in the room and a connection to the pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk. We are leaving the west side intact, the part that was on the Figure 8 album cover and that people like to take pictures in front of."
