The Cure revisit all albums in double closing set at Meltdown Festival
Robert Smith's Meltdown Festival came to a close last night (24 June) with The Cure, who delivered an impressive set spanning their whole career, performing two tracks from every album, as well as two unreleased ones.
Robert Smith, who curated this year's Meltdown Festival, led his group into an epic, career-defining set on the closing night.
Split into two sets, The Cure's first half From There To Here saw the group perform one track from each of their 13 albums in chronological order, finishing on the unreleased, "It Can Never Be the Same".
The second half, named From Here To There, saw Robert Smith lead his band straight into another new track "Step Into the Light", before performing another song off all 13 albums, but this time in reverse, ending on the timeless classic "Boys Don't Cry".
Described by Smith as "there to here and back again, the double set was largely missing obvious fan choices, but still provided an epic 28 songs to the packed out Southbank Centre in London.
Slicing Up Eyeballs reported that organisers announced Robert Smith would be "joined onstage by four of his curious friends - and other, imaginary accompanists - to perform special interpretations...", but later found out it may have been announced in this way due to "contractual reasons", as the actual set didn't include any special set ups or guest appearances. You can watch the entire set below.
