You will be able to stream The Beatles from Christmas Eve
The Beatles will be available to enjoy on most streaming services from Christmas Eve.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the announcement was imminent, but there was no solid proof, and given the Fab Four's penchant for eschewing tech, it wasn't a dead cert by any means.
But now it has been confirmed: from 00:01am local time on 24 December, the legendary quartet's catalogue will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Prime, Rhapsody, Deezer, Google Play, Microsoft Groove, Tidal, and Slacker.
The streamable sounds include: Please Please Me, With The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, Beatles For Sale, Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, The Beatles, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, Let It Be, The Beatles 1962 – 1966, The Beatles 1967 – 1970, Past Masters (Volumes 1 & 2), and 1.
Chris Cooke, co-founder of CMU, spoke about the news and its impact:
"In terms of digital the Beatles have always been quite late to the party - they came to iTunes in 2010, which was a good five years after the iTunes Music Store started gaining momentum. We had expected they would probably do an exclusive deal to stream their music with one service, but it looks like instead they are going to be pretty much everywhere from day one. So, I suppose that is them accepting that streaming is now a very serious, significant part of the record industry."
