The Avalanches share "Frankie Sinatra", announce first album in 16 years
The Avalanches have made a grand return with "Frankie Sinatra", the lead single from their first album in 16 years.
The Australian sample fiends have been teasing their return for a while, and this new music arrives ahead of their live comeback. It was revealed by Zane Lowe on Beats 1.
The track features Danny Brown and MF DOOM, samples The Sound Of Music and Wilmouth Houdini's "Bobby Sox Idol", and has a bizarrely dark video about a hallucinogenic neon drink/ice cream treat wreaking havoc in the Deep South.
The long-awaited follow up to 2000's Since I Left You is called Wildflower and it features 21 new tracks. It's got a bunch of special guests, including Father John Misty, Toro Y Moi, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux, Camp Lo, Warren Ellis of Dirty Three, and Biz Markie.
The band's Robbie Chater says: “What kept us going during the making this record was a belief in the day-to-day experience of music as a life force – as life energy. Hearing a certain song on a certain morning can change your day; it can make the world look different, changing the way you perceive light refracting through the atmosphere for the rest of the afternoon. Literally changing the colour and feeling-tone of your world.”
Wildflower is out 8 July via XL Recordings.
