The Afghan Whigs announce first album in five years with new single "The Getaway"
The Afghan Whigs are back with news of their first album in five years How Do You Burn?, and have shared new single "The Getaway" to accompany the announcement.
"The Getaway" is the second track to be lifted from How Do You Burn?, following February's album opener "I’ll Make You See God", and lands with a Philip Harder and Patrick Pierson-directed video.
How Do You Burn? will be the group's ninth album, and first since 2017's In Spades. The Afghan Whigs started working on the album in September 2020, and finished it at the end of 2021. Due to the pandemic, Greg Dulli, co-producer Christopher Thorn and drummer Patrick Keeler worked together in California, while bassist John Curley contributed from Cincinnati. Guitarist Jon Skibic worked from New Jersey, and Rick Nelson recorded strings from New Orleans.
Dulli explains, "Once we got the system down, we started flying."
The new album features contributions from the late Mark Lanegan, who previously worked with Dulli's other band The Twilight Singers. According to Dulli, "It was Mark who named the album." How Do You Burn? also includes contributions from Susan Marshall, Van Hunt and Marcy Mays.
