Tanya Tagaq announces new album Retribution and unveils first track "Aorta"
Nunavut artist Tanya Tagaq has just announced the long-awaited sequel to her 2014 Polaris Prize winning album Animism.
Titled Retribution the new album finds Tagaq pushing musical and cultural boundaries even further, and the record is described as being "about rape: rape of women, rape of the land, rape of children, despoiling of traditional lands without consent." Never one to shy away from fighting for her land and her culture, Tagaq looks like pursuing this cause with even more fight.
Recorded with Jesse Zubot and featuring fellow Tuvan throat singer Radik Tyülyüsh, rapper Shad, traditional Inuk singer Ruben Komangapik, and Tagaq's own young daughter, Inuuja, Retribution will drop on 18 November via Six Shooter Records. It includes a cover of Nirvana's "Rape Me".
