Sweet Baboo announces new album The Boombox Ballads, shares lead single "Sometimes"
North Wales' Stephen Black, AKA Sweet Baboo, has announced his new album The Boombox Ballads, and shared lead single "Sometimes" to celebrate.
The Boombox Ballads follows 2013's critically-lauded LP Ships, and is set to be a heady mix of wit, emotive lyrics and stellar musical craftmanship.
Black says of the lead single/video:
"The ‘Sometimes’ video echoes a central theme of 'The Boombox Ballads' album, that of me wanting to become the singer of songs rather than a 'Singer / Songwriter'. In general it's a blur of half remembered shows from my childhood, like the performance bits in Morecambe & Wise or Jake Thackray on That's Life. More specifically it's inspired by the Harry Nillson BBC TV special from 1972 which I love. Some might say it's essentially a no budget 'Hey Ya!' and they'd be correct. It's directed superbly by my friend Eilir Pierce who took these themes and brought them to life."
The Boombox Ballads is due this August via Moshi Moshi. You can watch the album trailer here. You can pre-order it digitally here, or physically here.
