Swamp Dogg announces new album, reveals new track "I'll Pretend" featuring vocals from Justin Vernon
Swamp Dogg has announced new LP Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune and shared lead track "I'll Pretend", which features vocals from Bon Iver's Justin Vernon.
Jerry Williams, Jr., aka Swamp Dogg, has reached yet another milestone as the 75-year-old announces a new record nearly half a century after his debut release.
First number "I'll Pretend" is built on a foundation of Dogg's signature blues, and Justin Vernon adds a zesty twist of atmospheric electronica, propelling the distorted vocals through the subtle instrumentals.
Dogg explains new track "I'll Pretend" is about "a guy sitting in a restaurant by himself losing his fucking mind because he’s hoping his woman is gonna walk by, but she's at a Ramada Inn somewhere fucking somebody else to death."
Featuring production by Ryan Olson (Poliça), Dogg is still in full pursuit of finding new ways to cross genres with his blues-y sound. Expanding further, Dogg says he's based his new album around his experiments with auto-tune: “Every time I listen to some new music that everybody thinks is the greatest thing since hot biscuits, it's full of auto-tune."
