Surfer Blood share new "I Can't Explain" video, guitarist Thomas Fekete hits fundraiser target
Surfer Blood have shared the new video for "I Can't Explain" ahead of their Fierce Panda debut, 1000 Palms.
Talking about the clip/song, the group's frontman John Paul Pitts said: “I Can't Explain is one of our most collaborative efforts to date... the hook just came to us one day in the practice space and we wrote the rest of the song around it. The lyrics (by Kevin Williams) tell the story of a romantic encounter on a New Year's Eve past and build slowly with the rest of the song. I've always been keen on a long instrumental outro, so this seemed like the perfect spot for a long, jammy guitar section - a place for us to get some Yo La Tengo/Built to Spill guitar fetishizing out of our system.”
Recently, the band's guitarist, Thomas Fekete, revealed he'd been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his treatment, aiming to hit a target of $76,000. Fekete has smashed the target already.
Speaking about the campaign, Pitts added: "The fund-raising is really making Thomas' spirits soar! What he's going through right now is really scary, and he's extremely grateful and inspired by the outpouring of love and generosity. Thanks everyone!"
1000 Palms is out on 18 May via Fierce Panda.
A host of artists are also playing a fundraiser for Fekete in New York's Bowery Ballroom on 12 May, including We Are Scientists, Julianna Barwick, Kip Berman (The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart), Marnie Stern, Cults and more.
