Sufjan Stevens reveals raw demo version of "Chicago"
Sufjan Stevens has shared the demo version of his anthemic "Chicago", which appears on a very special star-shaped vinyl 12".
"Chicago" appears on Illinois, Stevens' fifth record. It's getting a 10th Anniversary re-release this year, with the iconic artwork's Superman figure replaced with Chicago-born superhero Blue Marvel - officially licensed from Marvel. As well as this, Stevens will relese a special die-cut, Chicago flag star-shaped 12" edition of the "Chicago" demo.
The song - originally written in 2004 - features Stevens playing guitars and organ.
Stevens' label Asthmatic Kitty Records has pressed 10,000 copies of the Illinois: Special 10th Anniversary Blue Marvel Edition, which is sold out online but available through local record stores.
Asthmatic Kitty are also selling 2000 misprinted copies of the single - the label on these records reads 45 RPM, but they actually play best at 33 RPM. You can pre-order now.
Last year saw the release of Stevens' latest LP Carrie & Lowell.
