Stormzy to speak at Oxford University tonight
Grime MC Stormzy is set to give an address at Oxford University's Oxford Guild society tonight.
The whole thing will be livestreamed on Periscope from 8pm GMT.
Speaking ahead of the event, Stormzy says: "It's an honour to be asked to speak at such a prestigious establishment. In school, all my teachers and my mum were super routing for me to study at Oxford, I picked music as a career choice and this didn't sit to well with them! So to be asked to come down and speak to the students there is a true tale of destiny giving you the right cards.”
The Oxford Guild - the UK's oldest professional society, established in 1897, has hosted a range of significant cultural figures in its history. Marina and The Diamonds and Kanye West are two recent, notable entries, and you can watch their Oxford Union Addresses here and here.
The Guild's chariman, Abbas Kami, says of Stormzy's upcoming address: "We are delighted to be welcoming to the Oxford Guild such an exciting and high profile a speaker as the one and only Stormzy and expect it to be a fascinating and memorable event and are thrilled that he will be doing an exclusive performance for those attending! We’ve had a phenomenal reaction from the student body so far with over 1,200 students balloting for places in under 24 hours of announcing it... this is yet another great coup for the Guild which I am proud to see continuing to reach ever higher heights”
