Stormzy, Jorja Smith, and more join judging panel for Hyundai Mercury Prize 2019
The 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize has some new faces joining the judging panel, including Stormzy, Jorja Smith, and more.
Gaz Coombes, Annie Mac, and Tshepo Mokoena will join returning judges Clara Amfo, Jamie Cullum, Mike Walsh, and more.
The 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize shortlist will be revealed tomorrow (25 July), with the judges having narrowed down the list to just 12 albums from over 200.
David Wilkinson, Mercury Prize Chairman said, "There were over 200 albums entered for the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize - and the judges spend many months listening to these and then meet to decide on the shortlist of 12 ‘Albums of the Year’. This has been an exciting year for British and Irish music so it’s going to be tough for them choosing just 12 albums. After last year’s successful event we’re looking forward to an equally diverse and eclectic shortlist being announced by Huw Stephens on 25 July."
2018 saw Wolf Alice scoop the Hyundai Mercury Prize for their 2017 album Visions Of A Life.
The shortlist will be announced by Huw Stephens, and aired on BBC Radio 6 Music's Lauren Laverne’s show from 11am tomorrow (25 July).
