Stone Temple Pilots sack frontman Scott Weiland without him knowing
Stone Temple Pilots have fired their frontman Scott Weiland, or “terminate” him as they put it rather clinically.
The alt-rock group made their announcement online earlier this week.
The band’s brief statement reads as follows:
“Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland – no further information is available at this time”.
Weiland, however, claims to have not known of his removal – also saying that they have no right to fire him.
He told CMU:
“I learned of my supposed ‘termination’ from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be ‘terminated’ from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday”.
The band originally formed in 1986, disbanding in 2003 before their subsequent reunion in 2008.
It’s not the first time Weiland has been sacked either, parting ways non-mutually with Velvet Revolver previously.
