Steven Spielberg makes music video directing debut with Marcus Mumford's "Cannibal"
Last week Marcus Mumford released his first (self-titled) single "Cannibal", and he revealed yesterday (18 July) that the accompanying music video was directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg, marking his first music video.
"Cannibal" is the first preview of Mumford's debut solo album (self-titled), and arrived last week with a one-shot monochrome video that didn't include any credits.
Yesterday (18 July) Mumford decided to share the high-profile credits for the accompanying visual, which is directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg (Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, West Side Story, The Terminal). Kate Capshaw (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) is credited as producer, art director and dolly grip, and Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby) is listed as the costumer and sound.
"Cannibal" is Spielberg's first ever music video, and was recorded on his phone.
"On Sunday 3rd July in a high school gym in New York, Steven Spielberg directed his first music video, in one shot, on his phone," Mumford wrote. "Kate Capshaw was the almighty dolly grip."
He added, "I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of the people around me to bring this music to you, and I cannot hope to express all of my gratitude. When people get it, it blows my mind. Kate and Steven just got it, and I cannot thank them enough. Thank you Kate. Thank you Kristie. Thank you Steven."
