St. Vincent is known for warped guitar solos that take her songs in mysterious directions, with Annie Clark recently speaking to BBC Radio 6 Music on how to shred.
“I would say what constitutes for a good guitar solo is something that takes a left-turn out of the classic pentatonic rock solo of the ages,” Clark told Mary Anne Hobbs on Sunday. “I’m not aiming to be weird, just to put a little kink in the process to make it unpredictable.
The musician also discussed writing songs before sleep and treating instruments like a voice.
