Spotify to personalise playlists based on listening history
Spotify has announced that the personalisation of playlists will be developed further by basing it on listening history.
The streaming service has announced two new developments within its services. The first is that personalised playlists will be tailored more to individual taste in music by taking into account the listening history of the user, resulting in editorial playlists being completely individual.
Some of the playlists included in this addition will be the mood and event playlists. Artists will also be able to see when their songs are added to a playlist by Spotify's new software via the Spotify for Artists and Spotify Analytics platforms.
Based on their post announcing the new development, the company has already tested the software, resulting in an increase of the "number of artists featured on playlists by 30% and the number of songs listeners are discovering by 35%."
The second development is providing artists with unique links when their songs are added to editorial playlists. This will mean that instead of listeners having to scroll to find the track by the specific artist, the track will instead be highlighted at the top of the playlist.
Last month a new company called Record Radar launched its site, which uses personal Spotify playlist data to locate vinyl in local record shops.
