Spotify premium users can now host remote listening parties with up to five people
Spotify has expanded its Group Sessions feature to allow premium users to host remote listening parties with up to five people anywhere in the world.
The new remote listening party feature allows five people in total to listen to playlists and podcasts at the same time, even if they aren't in the same location.
Spotify first launched the Group Sessions beta feature in May, which allowed premium users to host listening parties with people nearby. Those that join the Group Session also have playback control.
The latest development in the Group Sessions feature will allow a Spotify premium user to generate a shareable link in the "Connect" menu by pressing "Start a group session". The link received by the host can then be shared with four friends.
All users in the remote listening party will be able to add and/or remove tracks from the queue, as well as having control over the playback options.
There's currently no chat feature available, which means the shareable link will need to be sent to friends via another messaging service.
Spotify reiterates that the Group Session feature is still in "beta", and will "continue to evolve over time".
