Spotify founder says he's "secured the funds" and has "very compelling offer" to buy Arsenal
Spotify founder and CEO Daniel Ek has revealed he's "secured the funds" to present a "very compelling offer" to buy Arsenal FC.
Last Friday (23 April) Daniel Ek tweeted: "As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for Arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I'd be happy to throw my hat in the ring" in response to the recent protests over Stan Kroenke's position at the club, after Kroenke put Arsenal in the controversial European Super League, which has since seen all six Premier League teams pull out.
After getting former Invincibles players Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Dennis Bergkamp on board to help with his Arsenal takeover bid, the Swedish billionaire has confirmed to CNBC (via Sky Sports) that he has "secured the funds", adding, "I want to bring what I think is a very compelling offer to the owners and I hope they hear me out."
Ek is expected to present his first offer to the Kroenke family for Arsenal, which is due to be in the region of £1.8 billion, over the next few days. Despite Ek preparing to present an offer, the Kroenke family have said they will "not entertain any offer".
The Spotify founder has also said that his takeover bid for Arsenal is "very serious", and just wants to "engage the fans again". He added, "I just see a tremendous opportunity to set a real vision for the club to bring it back to its glory."
When Ek first expressed interest of buying the club on Twitter last week, musicians, including Tim Burgess, questioned his interest. Burgess wrote on Twitter, "Could we ask that you get things sorted out with musicians before jumping in with footballers??"
