Spotify beats Apple Music to 100 million paid users
Spotify has revealed it has reached the 100 million paid subscribers milestone, nearly twice as many as Apple Music.
Revealing their most recent financial figures, the Stockholm-based streaming service revealed it has reached 100 million Premium subscriptions.
According to Engadget, Spotify has 217 million users in total, with 117 million of them opting for the free package.
Variety reports that Apple Music revealed in April that they had 50 million paid users worldwide. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said of the comparison, "Competition is really not a big factor for us."
The streaming service also announced that it has acquired Parcast for $56 million, after already having bought podcast companies Gimlet media and Anchor FM back in February. The company revealed it expects revenue from podcasts to "accelerate" throughout 2019, having already released some Spotify original podcasts, including The Joe Budden Podcast, and Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith.
According to Stereogum, Apple Music will reveal its latest financial figures tomorrow (30 April).
