Spiritualized, Ariel Pink & more announced for Mexican Summer's fifth anniversary festival
Brooklyn record label Mexican Summer have revealed plans for its fifth birthday which includes a festival, a book and a 10″ vinyl featuring collaborations from currently signed artists.
The imprint, who have previously released the records of Best Coast, Kurt Vile and Ariel Pink, will be hosting a festival on 11-12 October at Pioneer Works Center for Arts and Innovation in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The festival will also play host to the likes of Connan Mockasin, No Joy and others. The label’s record store Co-Op 87 will be hosting a pop-up shop at the event.
New book Mexican Summer: Five Years will be designed by label collaborator Dan Schecter and will only be released in 1000 editions. Five Years will have art, photos, writings and more from Mexican Summer artists and will be covered in a cloth cover and screenprinted paper wrap. The book will also come with a 10″ album featuring label artists coming together as mini-label supergroups with Bay of Pigs (Spiritualized, Soldiers of Fortune, and Neil Hagerty), Jorge Elbrose (Jorge Elbrecht and Ariel Pink), Autre Ne Veut and many others.
