Speedy Ortiz's Sadie Dupuis shares new single "Get A Yes" from upcoming solo debut
Speedy Ortiz frontwoman Sadie Dupuis has shared "Get A Yes", the lead single from her upcoming solo debut record Slugger.
Flying under the flag of Sad13, Dupuis forgoes the ragged rock tones of her group project, sauntering into synthpop for a tune about getting consent.
"How many kids learn about sex from pop music?" Dupuis asks in an interview with NPR. "And how many fun-sounding pop musicians do a heinous job as sex-ed teachers?… Like ‘Genie In A Bottle,’ which characterizes sex as an internal conflict between the mind and the body - rather than something you should only do when the minds and bodies of all parties involved are synchronized? Or ‘Blurred Lines,’ in which the narrator presumes to know what his partner wants?"
We've seen Dupuis venture out alone a few times when she's posted demos/tracks on SoundCloud (usually at Christmas), but now there's a whole record to look forward to - it's out 11 November on Carpark, and was written/produced by Dupuis.
Speedy Ortiz's most recent album Foil Deer was released in 2015.
