While illegal downloading has decreased in the UK over the past year, Spain remains one of the worst European countries for piracy – with new legislation tackling the issue with some harsh measure.
As Music Week note, the Spanish government recently passed a bill that increases the maximum sentence those found guilty of copyright infringement should serve to up to six years.
The law, which will be introduced early next year, will affect owners of file-sharing websites rather than the consumers themselves.
