Sony starts pulling music from Soundcloud
The likes of Adele, Passion Pit, Hozier, and MS MR have had their music removed from the online streaming website due to “a lack of monetization opportunities.”
Following the announcement of a monetization program last August, Soundcloud states they've signed over 100 partners. In November, Warner Music Group became the first record company to sign a licensing deal with the website, but as Sony starts to pull its artists' catalogues from the service, Soundcloud's future has been drawn into question.
"We are in ongoing conversations with major and independent labels and will continue to add partners to the [On SoundCloud] program," the website said in a statement.
Representatives from Sony Music and Columbia Records have not yet commented on the music's disappearance.
