Sony distribution warehouse burnt down in London riots
As the riots in London continued last night, the city was subject to mass looting and arson, with communities from Hackney and Dalston to Peckham and Croydon being amongst the worst affected. With an already untold amount of damage having been caused, rumours emerged this morning that a warehouse in Enfield owned by Sony DADC was burnt to the ground. The stock was set to be distributed by PIAS, (home to XL, Domino and many more), whose Head of Digital Marketing confirmed the sad news this morning via twitter.
Darren Hemmings wrote: “I can confirm that the Sony DADC warehouse in Enfield did burn to the ground, and Sony holds PIAS stock. In terms of the impact to PIAS etc., the situation remains to be clarified. Again, I will not post anything until I have confirmed info.”
A whole host of independent labels could be affected and with times already tough, this could prove a tragic blow to those who had stock in the warehouse. Expect more details today as they emerge.
