Sly and the Family Stone announce career-spanning boxset
Funk/soul pioneers, Sly and the Family Stone are set to have their 13 year career commemorated by a 4-disc boxset.
The collection, titled Higher!, will contain 77 tracks, 17 of which are previously unreleased, along with an 104 pages of liner notes, artwork and more. It’ll be released on 27 August.
Jeff Kaliss, who wrote the liner notes essay as well as the band’s only authorized biography, said of the collection:
“Refracted in these treasures are colors you may be unused to seeing in Sly: old R&B, jazz, nursery rhymes, gospel, and even country, fused and transformed by a precious visionary and his fellow musical alchemists.”
