Sky Ferreira confirms she auditioned to play Madonna in upcoming biopic
Sky Ferreira has confirmed rumours that she auditioned for, and narrowly missed out on playing Madonna in the upcoming biopic.
Following reports earlier this month that Julia Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna) had been offered to play Madonna in her upcoming biopic, Sky Ferreira spoke about auditioning for the part in a new interview with The Guardian.
According to the piece, Ferreira was nearly given the lead role. Ferreira said of the auditions, "It was the most surreal thing at first." She also revealed that she got to sing "Like a Virgin" with Madonna while wearing her clothes, and added, "And she did my makeup! That was the best moment of my life."
Ferreira, who returned last month with her first single in three years, "Don’t Forget", also spoke about the long wait for her Masochism album, claiming that her record label Capitol have told her people don't want to work with her.
She said of the current nine-year gap between her debut Night Time, My Time and Masochism, "I thought it was going to be out seven years ago. But then so much time has changed, and I changed in some ways … You don’t own the person, you know? Why did you sign me in the first place? I didn’t pretend to be something different."
Ferreira also spoke about still having one album left on her contract after Masochism, "God knows how many albums I’ve actually made. I’m glad a lot of them aren’t out now, so in a way it worked."
Last month Ferreira said of her new album, "I think there’s some things that need to be finished, and I would like to write some [more] songs. A lot of it’s done. It’s just more mixing, rerecording certain parts, changing certain lyrics. It’s little details."
