Skepta says he turned down an MBE on surprise new single "Hypocrisy"
Skepta has surprise released a brand new single titled "Hypocrisy" - it's another piece of excellence from one of grime's biggest talents.
At one point in the track Skepta claims to have rejected an MBE: "Just came back from the Ivors / and look at what we collected / the MBE got rejected / I’m not trying to be accepted..."
The Queen's Birthday Honours were revealed last month, with Sir Paul McCartney, Sade, Ed Sheeran, and Emile Sandé among the musicians honoured. Although many receive their honours, Skepta's in good company if he did turn down the MBE, with David Bowie, Ken Loach, George Harrison, Benjamin Zephaniah, and more also declining.
Over the last year the Skepta has racked up awards and nominations, scooping the Mercury Prize for his LP Konnichiwa and winning two Ivor Novellos back in May.
As The FADER note, DJ Maximum previewed "Hypocrisy" at Primavera last month. It's self-produced and features mixing/mastering from MsM Enginee, with artwork by Midnight Shane.
