sir Was announces debut album Digging A Tunnel, unveils new single "In The Midst"
Gothenburg-based musician Joel Wästberg, aka sir Was, today revealed the title of his debut album alongside brand new track "In The Midst".
This new song is taken from Digging A Tunnel, which will be out March 10 via City Slang. The album, recorded between 2014 and 2015 in his favourite recording space in Gothenburg, is a collection of songs inspired by his influences but seen through a prism of Wästberg's love of hip hop.
He reveals sir Was to be influenced by “Moondog, Bob Hund, The Beatles, My Bloody Valentine, D’Angelo, J Dilla, Thomas Mapfuno. Liturgy, Sly and the Family Stone, Drake, Mahavishnu Orchestra… I don’t know. I listen to a lot of stuff!”
Of the new single, Wästberg says "Sometimes, or should I say often, I like to get cosy. When being home, just relaxing, I tend to wear really comfortable clothes. Things that doesn't mean anything on a aesthetic level. It just do you good. It makes you relax and forget about yourself. I rarely use these clothes outside the apartment. But this time I made an exception. I wore my clothes in front of the camera. Please enjoy this product. All the best, sir Was."
