Sir Paul McCartney to front Nirvana reunion tonight
Nirvana are set to reunite for the first time in 20 years this evening, with Sir Paul McCartney taking the place of the late Kurt Cobain.
Surviving members of the grunge band, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, are set to perform together at tonight’s ’12.12.12′ concert, a gig in support of those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The former Beatles singer is to front the group, but didn’t originally know what he was letting himself in for.
McCartney told The Sun newspaper:
“I didn’t really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?’ “
Continuing:
“And somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”
The supergroup are also rumoured to be playing a brand new song.
