SheSaid. So and Sonos bring together women in music to discuss breaking barriers and creating change
SheSaid. So and Sonos teamed together to play host to an evening of lively discussion in honour of International Women's Day at Sonos' Seven Dials store in London.
The evening brought together a panel of inspiring women working in different areas of music to share their own experiences and how they have overcome barriers throughout their careers.
The panel was led by Andreea Magdelina, founder of SheSaid. So, and also featured Judy Griffith (Fabric London), Jane Third (PIAS Music), Steph Marziano (Mixing Engineer/Producer), Laura Snapes (The Guardian) and Shakira Payne (Sonos).
The main aim of the event was for women to talk about the challenges they have faced in their respective professions, many of which have been traditionally male-dominated, and discuss ways in which the music industry can help more women, and other under-represented minorities, rise through the ranks and reach the more senior levels in companies both big and small.
Last year, Sonos launched a long term social impact initiative called Listen Better, devoted to promoting and defending the future of music. Pledging over one million in grants the Listen Better program is focused primarily on supporting grassroots activist and advocacy work across relevant areas in music and tech. Sonos is using the company’s unique resources to make sure talent around the world are free to create and innovate the things that changes lives – not just individually, but in transforming communities, and advocating for justice and equality for all people.
They have partnered with SheSaid. So, an international network of women who work in the music industry who pride themselves on the principles of collaboration, creativity and positive values. They create spaces for women to share their experiences and also run events and mentoring schemes to help enable and empower other women in their careers.
