Iconic Sheffield venue, The Leadmill are looking into the prospect of expanding their company to London, China or even Brazil.
Speaking to MusicWeek, its general manager Rupert Dell spoke about the possibility of opening venues further afield but continuing with the same brand identity as the original throughout.
“We’re talking to a few people at SXSW about new markets China and Brazil.
Then there’s merchandising. The Leadmill brand itself is hugely strong, probably all over the world but London certainly.”
Dell also told MusicWeek about how the Sheffield venue are diversifying into other forms of entertainment to stay profitable in this correct economic climate.
“We’re selling out comedy night now. It’s completely different to live music but we just started it up and it’s selling out once a month. We’re expanding that and there’s burlesque.
“There’s nothing we wouldn’t do. The club nights and live music are the core of the business, but they’re not enough to make us achieve what I want to achieve with this company.”
This follows news that London independent record shops Rough Trade are eyeing the possibility of opening more UK and worldwide stores.
