Sheffield venue The Leadmill launches official petition to oppose eviction
Legendary Sheffield venue The Leadmill has launched an official petition opposing an eviction notice from the landlord.
Last month The Leadmill venue bosses shared a post on socials revealing their landlord is "evicting us and forcing us to close" in one year's time, and encouraged fans and musicians to share their favourite memories of the venue using the #WeCantLoseLeadmill hashtag.
Jarvis Cocker, The Cribs, You Me At Six's Josh Franceschi, Kaiser Chiefs, Tim Burgess, Mystery Jets, Billy Bragg, Sleaford Mods, Little Comets, Enter Shikari and many more have shown their support for the venue, and now The Leadmill is asking fans to sign an official petition opposing their proposed eviction.
The petition is aiming to get the government to suspend Section 25 (Grounnds C to G) of the Landlord and Tenant Act, which, if successful, would mean "tenants cannot be evicted until a Government review has been concluded, and any reforms implemented."

Although the landlord of The Leadmill has pledged that the space will continue to be a music venue, The Leadmill's current tenants revealed on Twitter that they could lose the venue name and staff if they're evicted.
The Sheffield venue originally opened in 1980, and has hosted huge names over the years including Pulp, Coldplay, The Stone Roses and many more. A statement on The Leadmill's site reads: "Since 1980 The Leadmill has spent millions of pounds on what was a derelict warehouse, transforming it into one of the U.K’s most respected venues where countless acts from across the globe have performed over the years."
